1917 Cecil H. Clegg

Cecil Hunter Clegg was born June 9, 1873 in Northern Ireland. His wife, Jessie M., was a teacher.  Both were naturalized American citizens, with Cecil reportedly coming to the country in 1895 and naturalizing in 1909.

Clegg served as an Assistant District Attorney in Seward sometime between 1904-1908.  By 1920, Clegg was living in Fairbanks where he had a law office.

By 1930, Judge Cecil H. Clegg owned a prize winning dog sled team, winning the Signal Corps Race at Fairbanks in March 1929.

Genevieve Metcalfe became the women’s dog team racing champion in 1926 and 1929 driving Judge Clegg’s teams.

Clegg’s kennels are credited with making major contributions to the racing and breeding of race dogs.
